Tree Protection: Tree Tubes vs Caging/Fencing Trees

A double post day!

There are several tree protection methods from deer, rodents, livestock, rabbits, and other wildlife. Find out the pros and cons of tree tubes and fencing / caging trees in this video!

๐Œ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ ๐Ÿ Tree Pro Tree Tubes (60") - Pack of 25 - https://amzn.to/2DfctKF Pack of 5 - https://amzn.to/2VOCXd2 Weed Mat (w/ Garden Staples) 5' Electrical conduit for stake ๐Œ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ ๐Ÿ Concrete Remesh or Woven Wire Fence with T-posts Weed Mats (w/ Garden Staples) Aluminum Window Screen

If you spend time and money to plant fruit trees, you need to make sure they're protected from wildlife. When young, trees are vulnerable. In this video, I discuss the steps I take to protect them from mice, voles, rabbits, deer, cattle and goats. On part of my property, I have cattle and goats. On that parcel, I use t-posts to secure the fencing. I used a combination of woven wire and concrete remesh, because I had them leftover from planting last year. I prefer remesh due to it's rigidity, but either will work with proper staking. You could also use rebar (or tobacco sticks) for staking remesh (if cattle are present I use t-posts though).

How to Process & Prepare Rabbit: Fried Rabbit Recipe with Sweet-Heat Sauce

How to Process & Prepare Rabbit

Fried Rabbit Recipe with Sweet-Heat Sauce

This video is a follow-up to the rabbit hunt I posted a few days ago. My daughter, Annie, helped me process and prepare rabbit in an easy, delicious recipe: fried rabbit topped with a sweet-heat mustard! This video shows my daughter and I processing the bunny, frying or browning it lightly in oil, preparing a sauce, and then tasting it! This is a delicious, easy way to prepare rabbit and wild game!

Fried Largemouth Bass Recipe & Crispy Homemade Seasoned Fries

I prepare & cook, or deep fry, largemouth bass and bluegill using an easy-to-make batter with homemade fries that are golden brown and crispy! The next time you're fishing, put them on a stringer instead of throwing them back! Bass are just as tasty as bluegill or catfish! Deer Hate Tree Planters (Funny) - Final Day of Planting Chestnut Trees

This is a funny, tongue-in-cheek video of me finishing up my chestnut tree plantings. I haven't gotten around to posting it right away (about a month old). At any rate, I saw a bunch of deer on this day. They were fearless and persistent all day watching my every move! I'm pretty sure one little buck had it out for me! Be careful out there planting trees!

Planting Chestnut Trees and an Unfortunate Discovery!

This is a video showing the planting of Chinese Chestnut bareroot tree seedlings (and Kiefer Pear trees) over the course of a few days during the Spring of 2018. I used approximately 36' spacing for the Chestnut trees. During this visit, I also found something unfortunate. Check it out and subscribe to my blog or YouTube page for more updates!

Habitat Improvement Series - Edge Feathering

In accordance with my habitat plan (earlier video), I am creating some edge feathering. The purpose is to: 1) increase late winter browse for deer 2) remove invasive species 3) improve doe bedding 4) improve habitat for quail, rabbit and turkey nests, and 5) provide a place to plant some more beneficial wildlife trees without losing pasture/food plots. Stay tuned for future updates and more habitat work by subscribing.

Habitat Improvement - Scouting Before the Work

It was a tough day of scouting in the snow, but I made some interesting (and scary) finds. I am now ready to get to work on my habitat management plan!

Deer Habitat Management Plans

In this video I discuss my habitat management plan that I developed to improve the deer habitat on the property I hunt and manage. This plan involves tree planting, hinge cutting, edge feathering, blocking, travel corridors, blocking, invasive species removal and buck & doe bedding.
I will be releasing videos over the coming weeks, months and years that will provides updates on the work of this habitat plan. Please like and subscribe for updates.

Oregon Felling Wedge, #23565

Available on Amazon by clicking HERE

I wanted to do some chainsaw work at my farm to improve habitat for deer, rabbits, birds, etc. I put together a big-picture plan for trails, funnels, edge feathering, etc. However, before getting to work, I ordered 2 Oregon wedges (#236565). They come with a tab that you cut off along the indicated line. The top side of the wedge is smooth and the bottom is serrated. The serrated edge helps prevent the wedge from slipping, or being squeezed, out of the tree.

Kelley General Expandable 50' Garden Water Hose

Available for purchase by clicking the link:

MY REVIEW:
I really like these types of hoses for the convenience factor. This expandable hose is a quick way to water the plants or wash your car. It doesn't take up much room and it hides away or stores easily. I have several expandable hoses. Most are similar but good quality with good fittings. Some are a bit cheaper. This is a nice expandable hose. I would not leave this, or any, expandable hose out in the winter or exposed to the sun on a daily basis. It may be able to handle it, but it's not something I would recommend. The following is a list of pros and cons I've noted during my use with this hose.
